Another sad statistic is that according to the information found on NC Department of Non-public Education, 10% of the students in Wake County are homeschooled. Homeschooling is not easy and parents have to have very good reason to take their children out of the Public School system.

I have watched several of her videos. And I'm about half way through "The Smartest Kids.....". Since I'm not a parent, I've spent much time in researching the US schooling system. It is a given that compulsory public schooling is a responsibility of the government even when no such provision is in the US Constitution. Yet when I was in public school, I felt that there was somethig not quite right about it. My self-education began with "NEA Trojan Horse in American Education"--Sam Blumenfeld; and "Education in a Free Society"--Benjamin Rogge. Since I got on the Internet, I've become acquainted with the books and videos by John T. Gatto and Charlotte Iserbyt who've exposed government controlled schooling as one of the worst tragedies ever imposed on a gullible public.

I've read: "Child Abuse in the Classroom"--Phyllis Schlafly; "Underground History of American Education", "Weapons of Mass Instruction" and "Dumbing Us Down"--Gatto; "the deliberate dumbing down of america"--Iserbyt; "Walking Targets" and "Cloning of the American Mind"--B.K. Eakman: "Mindset"--Carol Dweck; and "Building Resilience in Children and Teens"--Kenneth Ginsburg. Ripley's "Smartest Kids.." is a great compliment to these books. We tend to consider the subjects in the curriculum as ends in themselves rather than as tools for functioning in society. Grammar is just a tool we need to understand and communicate with others. Math proficiency (eg. interest and percentages) helps us to avoid being screwed by dishonest bankers, merchants and government officials. I feel that the students are subtly taught to hate math, grammar and history so they will be easy marks for the unscrupulous. An ignorant public is the goal of government schooling as the above books will clearly prove.
